The 27th and final thing

I learned some new and interesting things about how to use the technology my nephews and niece take for granted. I doubt I'll ever use Twitter. I'm leaning toward getting a facebook account but what the heck would I post. All I do is work and home, repeat. I need to get out more. I'd like to fix my rollyo search engine so it works on my blog page, and now that I've played with flickr a bit I should stop browsing and pick a few I'd like to add so my profile isn't blank. Now that I've created my blog and wandered through LibraryThing I'd like to keep it going.
I'd didn't get all 27 things to work exactly how they were supposed and I'd like to go back figure out where I went wrong. Today is the 31st and I'm finished. What do I win Johnny? Gimme !
Gimme ! Pleeeease!
Since I don't have brownies to clean my place like Harry Dresden I'd better pick up my kitchen before I go to bed.

Thing # 26

Thingfo is not currently allowing new accounts. What a relief creating a new widget sounds like fun but I have no idea what I'd put in it. I don't Twitter, have a facebook page or iGoogle. I might use the Rss link or maybe combine all three of my e-mail accounts but maybe not. No widget for me but I don't really need it.

Twitter #25

I don't want to be added to Twitter. I still feel that it's a cutesie waste of time. The librarian link on 27 things was under maintenance so I explored some other topics. Like Ellen DeGeneres the talk show host with her hundreds of followers(I Don't Care!). Eureka one of my favorite shows has a twitter following too. It looks like it's an im of viewer commentary while you watch the latest episode. It will drive me crazy to read this stuff so I'll ignore it.

Things #23 and #24

Well I explored our Spl site a bit. I put Twilight on hold but I'll have to take it off since I finished the copy I borrowed from our guard's wife on Wensday. The dvd request link showed an error message so I'll try it later. I looked up Acne and Diabetes on the Gale group health database and learned some things about skin folicals I'm not sure I want to know. The women and investing group meets on Wensday afternoon and I can't drop by now that my new schedule has changed my days off. I'd use the sacramento bee classifieds for my local job search. I hope I won't need it but I'll keep an I out for chefs/cooks for my cousin.
I like the mango language lessons. I decided to explore Frenchbecause I didn't take it in highschool or college. I took Spanish, ASL, and a semester of German. I may have to skip beyond the first three lessons though. I do know enough to introduce myself and say hello. Maybe I'll try Japanese instead.

Thing #22

My biggest problem with our audio book collection is if I've chosen a book byTamora Pierce or Orson Scott Card's (i.e.Empire) and the copies are not availble or I forget to check my e-mail at home before the grace period is over I loose them. I suppose I could do what Gloria Bugbee used to do. Download and listen to them at work before we open. There are several classic titles I want to try so I guess I'll have to remember to look at my e-mail tomorrow so I can listen to Peter Pan.

Thing #21

Did you know that our state library did podcast? I didn't. I added them to my bloglines account even though the most recent post was from 2007. I was interested in something to do with our state than say the one from Pennsylvania. I also discovered author interviews with Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman and stuff on Firefly and Lost . I may add these to my blogglines later.

Thing 20. Youtube

I'm familiar with youtube because my nephew likes to show me the funny things he's discovered about WOW, Helo, or hampsters or strange babies that sing in weird voices. I decided since I couldn't go to the San Diego Comicon I'd see what's been posted about it so far. I picked the Tron video because I liked the movie as a kid and wondered what the sequel will be like. As a bonus it has absolutly Nothing to do with New Moon or Twilight.

thing 18 part 2

I goofed around with a couple of different of the award winning websites like LibraryThing, Yelp, and Galaxiki. LibraryThing I discovered throgh 27 things and I like using it for book reviews and discussion threads on the stuff I'm reading. Yelp I used to read the review of the restraunt featured in the tv show Dinners, Drive-in's and Dives. If I 'm ever in that part of town and have some money I'd like to give a try. I'm always open to a good burger and fries. I explored galaxiki because Gloria has created her own solar system named after lizards.
Later I'll explore more on my own especially the sites involving food.

Thing #17 Wikis

My favorite wiki of the ones I explored is still Wikipedia. It's my favorite because I use it for fun stuff like looking up TV shows I missed plot synopsis', useless movie trivia my friends and I argue about or song lyrics I've been looking for. I didn't really have much luck editing my own comments with in the spl Sandbox. I could change the fonts, backgrounds, or colors of stuff other people added though. Then again I'm really bad with computers. I maybe kinda nerdy just not with technology. I have successfully added myself to the staff blog page.
I explored a few other library branches Wiki's like the one for the SJCPL Subject guides. It would be great to have one for our local California history considering how many great local Museums and State Parks we have in our area. The Regina Public library blogs because they had so many different topic pages Science Fiction and Fantasy, Movies, Business, graphic novels ect. I had fun exploring the movie it has good reviews nice graphics and the links are easy to use. Since I couldn't get back to the main library homepage I'm still not sure exactly were the library is I found the address once I think it's in Canada somewhere. I couldn't find the academic blog I was hoping for UC Riverside because they still have not answered my ask a library question I sent in last week and wanted to find another way into get my answer. San Diego and Berekly have on though. On to the next thing. Booklelf

Skin Trade

I finished Laurell K. Hamilton's "SKIN TRADE" over the weekend. This is the latest book in her Anita Blake series. It takes place in Las Vegas Nevada and it is a straight U.S. Marshall/ Vampire executioner gig with very little relationship baggage this trip. In fact Anita is in town with Edward, Otto, and Spotted Horse to help the locals stop a serial killer named Vittorio an insane master vampire. This doesn't mean there is no supernatural weirdness involved, in fact the local were-tigers seem to ramp up Anita's strain of tiger lycanthropy to an off the chart level. The tigers take to calling her "Little Queen " much to her frustration and the suspicion of the local cops. It turns out to be a new bid by the Mother of All Darkness to regain more power as she awakens in Europe. If Anita didn't have enough worries on the supernatural front there is Otto to contend with. He's decided that he would like to date Anita. Otto is a serial killer with a very specific victim profile petite brunettes and a very negetive ideas about women. This is definitely a first for the entire U. S. Marshall team and no one is quite sure how to handle the situation. I enjoyed this installment of the Anita Blake series much more than Harlequin or the one before it because it wasn't all about sex. Not that I object to sex in the books I read, but it shouldn't be the object of the story. This has been a problem in the last few books of both series but it looks like Hamilton is back on track.
